Pousard Garden — Glendale, CA

This expansive property on oak covered canyons has been an extensive project that now holds diverse garden spaces throughout, each with their own theme in flora that matches the changing diversity of the often vertical site conditions. With a certain amount of happy abandon, the client and I have pushed boundaries with the plant material, and the gardens present a wide ranging collection of plants, all appropriate for this climate – featuring succulents, cacti, bromeliads, native plants, traditional and very new hybrids/cultivars of flowering and ornamental plants, as well as oddities from all over the world. It is an exuberant space here that the client and I would like to says (usually to ourselves) is not unlike a California version of Monet’s garden at Giverny.
